Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture Successfully Holds International Seminar on Construction and Application of Spatial

On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, to further promote the exchange and cooperation in the field of geographic information surveying and mapping and to consolidate the strength of the industry, academia and research in the field of geographic information surveying and mapping, the International Seminar on Construction and Application of Spatial Data Infrastructure, hosted by the National Geographic Information Center and organized by Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, was held on September 15 at Jianben Lecture Hall, Daxing Campus. Over 80 participants, including Zhang Dayu, Vice President of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhang Jixian, Director of National Quality Inspection and Testing Center for Surveying and Mapping Products, Jiang Jie, Director of Global Geographic Information Resources Department of the National Geomatic Center of China and Chairman of ISPRS Committee III, Dang Yamin, Director of Institute of Geodesy and Geodynamics of Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping, Du Mingyi, School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics, Zhao Xiaohong, Director of International Exchange Office, Hou Miaole, Deputy Director of Human Resources Office, over 20 leaders from ASEAN members and developing countries, renowned experts, young scholars, teachers and postgraduates of the School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics, attended the event.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Jiang Jie, Chairman of ISPRS Committee III from the National Geomatic Center of China, and Professor Zhang Dayu, Vice President of BUCEA, delivered a welcome speech. He first extended a warm welcome to the guests, experts and scholars from all over the world attending the event and made a detailed introduction of BUCEA, the School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics as well as the disciplinary development.As noted by Mr. Zhang, it was hoped that the platform of the International Seminar on Construction and Application of Spatial Data Infrastructure would further enhance communication among countries, broaden academic knowledge, extend visions and gain friendship, and wished the event a complete success.
The Seminar consisted of three stages, which were chaired by Jie Jiang, Chairman of the Seminar, and Prof. Hou Miaole and Prof. Wang Jian from BUCEA, respectively. A total of 11 experts delivered presentations in English on topics such as surveying and mapping technology, surveying and mapping innovation, industry-university-research collaboration, construction, maintenance and application of SDI, shared experiences and cutting-edge technologies in related fields, and promoted international cooperation and mutual exchanges.
The Seminar was organized by the National Geomatic Center of China (NGCC), sponsored by theSpecial Fund for Regional Cooperation in Asia, and co-hosted by Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and Wuhan University. The Seminar consisted of two sessions, with the Beijing venue taking place from September 15 to 17, 2017 and the Wuhan venue from September 18 to 22, 2017.
During the event, student volunteers from the School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics provided voluntary service in English. Teachers and students attending the event exchanged ideas with foreign experts and young scholars, which not only demonstrated the brilliance of the students, but also further stimulated their enthusiasm for learning and interest in research and developed their thoughts and vision.
The successful holding of the International Seminar promoted international exchanges and cooperation in the field of "Construction and Application of Spatial Data Infrastructure", and was expected to further enhance the popularity of BUCEA at home and abroad, and further promote the well-organized development of the surveying and mapping discipline of BUCEA towards the first-class discipline.
