On the morning of July 16, the opening ceremony for the Third Summer International School of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) was held at the Xicheng Campus. President Zhang Ailin and Vice President Wang Su attended the opening ceremony, together with heads of related functional departments and teachers and students from 14 colleges and universities at home and abroad. Zhao Xiaohong, Director of the Division for International Cooperation and Exchanges, chaired the opening ceremony.
In his speech, President Zhang Ailin congratulated the flourishing of the Summer International School and welcomed students and teachers from different countries and regions. He said that the annual summer international school served as an important platform to give full play to the academic characteristics and superiorities of BUCEA, execute the open schooling strategy, and carry out extensive international education exchanges and cooperation. The International Summer School provided a platform for students and teachers from different countries and cultures to disseminate excellent cultures, learn new knowledge and exchange new ideas, and to promote a wide range of exchanges among students from different countries. Zhang Ailin said that the current era was an open era of "Internet +", as well as the era of economic globalization and internationalization of education and technology. And students in the new era should be able to "read ten thousand books, travel ten thousand miles". They should not only learn the theories, but also strengthen the practices from "teachers" and "universities" in a broader sense. In conclusion, Zhang Ailin expressed his best wishes to the participants of the International Summer School, saying that the process of learning and exploring scientific truths would be permanent, and so would the deep friendships made through mutual learning, which would become valuable life experiences and treasures for the students.
Professor ShaTeWoYang, Deputy Dean of the School of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, presented gifts to BUCEA and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said that it was a great honor to be invited to this International Summer School, and, as a member of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium, it was hoped that the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia would carry out more extensive cooperation in the future with BUCEA.
At the opening ceremony, students and teachers enjoyed the promotional video in English of BUCEA to learn more about the development, discipline construction, talents cultivation achievements and development characteristics of BUCEA.
Kirk Richards, a student at the University of South Wales, spoke on behalf of the international students of the International Summer School. He briefly introduced what he had seen and heard in the past two days since his arrival in Beijing, expressed his fondness for Beijing and looked forward to exchanging with students from all over the world in the next two weeks.
Zhao Hu, a student from Water Supply and Drainage Class 173 of the "2+2" Sino-US Cooperative Education Program, made a speech on behalf of the BUCEA students of International Summer School. He offered suggestions to the students in a witty and humorous style, and extended a welcome to the teachers and students participating in this Summer International School.
At the end of the opening ceremony, Zhao Xiaohong summarized the instructions of the International School and announced the official opening of the third Summer International School of BUCEA.
The Summer International School invited teachers from leading overseas colleges and universities such as the University of South Wales of the UK, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of Bulgaria, and the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia, as well as internationally renowned architects and professors to give lectures. The Summer International School curriculum focuses on the specialties of architecture colleges and universities, including fields such as architecture and civil engineering. In addition, Chinese culture and language exchange are also included. And a wide range of practical cultural activities are arranged in addition to the regular curriculum, providing a great opportunity for students to learn about and experience both traditional and modern Chinese architecture in person.
