From August 5 to 17, eight international students from Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) participated in the “Future Leader, Youth Ambassador” 2020 International Youth Social Practice Summer Camp co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Beijing Municipal People's Government and the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. International students from BUCEA teamed up with eight Chinese students from Beijing International Studies University (BISU) to carry out a 13-day practical activity on the topic of "Analysis of the Effect of COVID-19 on Youth Mental Health" by means of online lectures, group seminars, case sharing, literature search, paper writing, etc. and successfully completed the practical tasks.
This year, the International Youth Social Practice Summer Camp was held for the first time with priority to online activities. Nearly 100 campers from 9 colleges, universities and institutions, including Beijing Institute of Technology, Central University of Finance and Economics, University of International Business and Economics, Communication University of China, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing International Studies University, BAIC, etc., from 5 continents and 34 countries gathered on the cloud, divided into five practice groups to conduct in-depth research on global epidemic prevention, waste classification and other social hotspot issues, to explore effective solutions and share the wisdom of international youth.

The fourth group of the International Youth Social Practice Summer Camp this year was led by Huang Xing from the International Development Research Institute (School of International Education) of BUCEA and Guo Gang fromBeijing International Studies University. Sixteen Chinese and international students worked closely together and steadily progressed through the various practical activities related to the topic, following the schedule and agenda in the Participant Handbook. All the members got to know each other well through recording self-introduction videos, group meetings, online icebreaker activities, special lectures, and "one meeting a day" within the group, and had a full exchange and discussion around the lectures, Chinese and foreign campers teaming up, interview issues and questionnaire analysis and other preliminary project practice contents.
Diverse forms of cloud practices
From questionnaire data analysis, interview data collection and integration, to PPT presentation, video editing, writing of thesis, interviewing Chinese and foreign campers and sharing the interview results with each other, sharing stories during the epidemic, and introducing the current epidemic conditions in their countries. All teachers and students carried out comprehensive and fruitful practical activities around the topic of "Analysis of the Effect of COVID-19 on Youth Mental Health", and harvested fruitful practical achievements and sincere friendship among Chinese and international students.
At the closing ceremony and result sharing meeting on Aug. 17, Ibrahim from BUCEA and Tang Ruolin from the Beijing International Studies University summarized and reviewed the entire cloud practices. From the five aspects of research background, literature review, research methods, research results and conclusions, participants evaluated and analyzed the psychological impact of COVID-19 on academic planning, social interactions, daily life, policies and media of university students under the new coronary epidemic in three groups: domestic university students, overseas Chinese students and international students in China, and provided data and analytical support for the follow-up study, as well as important suggestions and references for colleges, governments and related institutions.

Mao Xiaogang, Vice Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, and Liu Yuhong, Vice President of the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, suggested in their comments that students should continue to discuss issues in depth and provide suggestions and references for the colleges and universities, governments and related organizations after the activities.
Meanwhile, students from the both universities completed a joint thesis entitled "Analysis of the Mental Health Status of Young College Students under the Epidemic". The presentation of the achievements by both universities was highly appreciated by the leaders, teachers and students attending the event. The Organization Committee presented "Future Leader and Youth Ambassador" medals and certificates to eight universities, including Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

The International Youth Social Practice Summer Camp this year aimed to encourage and guide Chinese and foreign youth to carry out in-depth exchanges and cooperation, and create a good atmosphere of international exchange for the construction of the International Communication Center. The “Future Leader, Youth Ambassador” International Youth Social Practice Summer Camp was first held in 2014 and has been successfully held for five sessions. By organizing Chinese and foreign university students to work together on research projects and social practices out of campus and into Chinese society, and guiding young people from all over the world to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture and a comprehensive perception of the achievements of China's modernization, the Summer Camp has been widely praised by young people of all over the world.
