The International Development Research Institute (School of International Education) (hereinafter referred to as the “IDRI”) is the operational institution responsible for international development at BUCEA, with the main responsibilities including international development research and planning, international innovation cooperation, international talent cultivation, and administration of overseas visits for official purposes. IDRI, oriented to the overall goal of the university to become “A Domestically Leading and Internationally Renowned High-Level, Open and Innovative University with Distinctive Architectural Characteristics”, addresses the frontiers of science and technology in the world and the major national demands, and concentrates on the B&R Initiative and the consciousness of the “Community with Shared Future for Mankind” by serving the “Four Centers” functional positioning of the Capital. With the core of improving the ability of international cooperation, education and service, and by means of improving international development mechanism and environment, building international innovation platform, promoting profound international exchange, and enhancing the capacity and level of international education, IDRI is dedicated to broadening the cooperation fields, innovating the cooperation methods, and improving the effectiveness of cooperation, so as to continuously enhance the level of international development and international influence of BUCEA.
I. Principal Activities
Based on the superior resources of BUCEA as a leading university, IDRI integrates international resources and elements at home and abroad, consolidates international research and practice forces within BUCEA, and promotes pragmatic work in three aspects, including building an international innovation platform, constructing an international cooperation network, and promoting the cultivation of international talents:
1. Building an international innovation platform: Create “1+N” high-end international innovation centers based on the “International Innovation Center”, including “1” university-level center, the Belt and Road City Internationalization Innovation Center, and “N” characteristic innovation centers relying on the research teams of secondary schools. Improve the internal motivation and core strength of the development of the BUCEA based on a flexible and efficient mechanism and through international innovative cooperation.
2. Promoting the cultivation of international talents:
Rely on the School of International Education to build a multi-level international talent cultivation system and improve the capability of BUCEA to cultivate international talents. Specifically, promote the International vision and communication and cooperation ability of the students through diversified and multi-angle training methods, and continuously improve the quality of international student training through multiple modes of international student education and vocational training.
3. Constructing an international cooperation network:
Rely on the International Science and Technology Exchange Service Center to establish cooperative relations with related foreign colleges and universities, academic organizations and related institutions, and to promote the joint school running, mutual recognition of credits and short-term student visits among members of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium. Promote and support the assignment of key teachers in international organizations, international exchange and cooperation, actively promote the establishment of international organizations, and actively organize international academic conferences, competitions, summer camps and training camps to expand the international influence of BUCEA.
II. Internal Institutional Setup:
The International Development Research Institute (School of International Education) consists of the International Innovation Administration Office, the Overseas Visit Services Office, the International Cooperation Relations Office, the International Education Administration Office and the General Office.
1. International Innovation Management Office (including the Sino-French Energy Training Center): Be responsible for the operation and administration of “1+N” international innovation centers, promote international scientific and technological cooperation and exchange, results incubation and industrial transformation, as well as technology and product export; strive for and organize the implementation of international scientific and technological cooperation projects.
2. Overseas Visit Services Office: Be responsible for overseas visit services for faculty, staff and students, coordination of visiting activities and international conferences, recruitment of foreign experts, overseas talent services, international cooperation promotion and website maintenance, informationization, database construction and management, etc.
3. International Cooperation Relations Office (including the Secretariat of the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium): Establish and maintain international cooperation networks; undertake situation analysis and policy research on international cooperation and exchange, and compile plans for international innovative cooperation and exchange; be responsible for promoting and managing the appointment of experts from international academic organizations within BUCEA, as well as professional training for countries along the Belt and Road; organize and coordinate international academic forums; set up and manage overseas education and research branches.
4. International Education Administration Office: Be responsible for the admission and administration of international students, the planning and implementation of Sino-foreign joint school running programs, the planning and implementation of overseas training and short-term visit programs for BUCEA students, the organization of international summer camps, the organization of international competitions for BUCEA students.
5. General Office: Be responsible for the daily administration and management of the IDRI.
